Details of News Release:
On 3-27-13, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office received a call about a robbery that had taken place in Los Osos. The victim, 27-year-old Avery Loran Fitch, claimed to be working for a Sonoma County-based mobile marijuana dispensary out of her car when she was approached by two men described as black male adults. The suspects were able to take marijuana and money from the victim. No weapons were used in the crime and the victim did not sustain any injuries. The suspects then took off on foot. They were later spotted in a car by a Sheriff's detective who then made a high risk felony stop. The suspects were detained at gunpoint on State Park Road in Morro Bay. The two male suspects, and a 15-year-old female juvenile inside the car were detained and arrested. Nineteen-year-old McKinley Ray Thomas was charged with grand theft and conspiracy to commit a crime. Lane Davon Phillips, 20, was also charged with one count of grand theft and conspiracy to commit a crime. The 15-year-old juvenile was charged with a count of accessory after a crime was committed. The marijuana and the money were recovered. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Fitch was involved in the incident and that Fitch, Thomas and Phillips had staged the robbery in order to steal the money and marijuana from Fitch's employer. Fitch was later arrested and charged with one count of grand theft and one count of conspiracy to commit a crime. The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office was assisted on this case by California State Parks and the Morro Bay Police Department.
