Every year since 1989 Sheriff's Honor Farm inmates have refurbished bikes donated by the community to give to underprivileged local children. This year their efforts were complicated by a large fire that destroyed the workshop and many of the bicycles on site. With the invaluable assistance of the Sheriff's Advisory Council and the SLO Bike Coalition, the Honor Farm staff and inmates were able to double their efforts and accomplish their goal of providing the bikes as promised and on schedule. Sheriff's staff will be giving several bikes to children at the Honor Farm on Wednesday morning, then loading the rest onto "Santa's Sleigh" for delivery at various locations throughout the county. Sheriff Parkinson welcomes the media to attend the Wednesday event and witness many deserving children receive a bicycle for Christmas. Please address any inquiries to Cmdr. Aaron Nix for further information.
