Contact: Tony CipollaPhone: (805) 781-4547Date and time of incident: 3-13-20Place of Occurrence: County JailVictim Information: N/ASuspect Information: N/AA top priority at the Sheriff's Office is to maintain the health and safety of the inmates in our care. As a result, the Sheriff's Office is announcing precautionary measures in the Jail with regards to the public health concern over COVID-19.
While there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in San Luis Obispo County at this time, the Sheriff's Office is taking the following measures out of an abundance of caution.
Effective immediately, in-person inmate visitation will be temporarily suspended until further notice. However, video visitation will still be available for inmates and their families. The Sheriff's Office has negotiated with our provider, Homewav, for reduced rates for video visitation during this time. The Sheriff’s Office values visitation as an essential part of rehabilitation and wants to try and accommodate those requests by facilitating the use of video visitation. Contact Homewav at https://homewav.com for more information or by calling the video visitation phone number at 314-764-2872.
Official in-person visits between inmates and attorneys or members of law enforcement will still be available by using glass-partitioned rooms.
In addition, the Jail Programs Unit has announced that inmate educational programs have been suspended until further notice.
Additionally, the Sheriff's Office has intensified its cleaning procedures in the Jail and has taken extra precautions to keep the inmates and staff safe. All arrestees are screened for fever and respiratory symptoms by a nurse before entering the Jail. If the person has symptoms, they are immediately given a mask, taken to the medical unit and isolated. Public Health will be notified, and recommendations will be followed by the Jail health staff for testing. In addition, those who work in the jail are following our existing employee policy regarding sick time use when they are ill as a means to prevent the introduction of any illness to the jail.
