911 System Issues Resolved

Contact: Tony CipollaPhone: (805) 781-4547Date and time of incident: 8-25-2025Place of Occurrence: San Luis Obispo CountyVictim Information: N/ASuspect Information: N/AThe Sheriff's Office has just been notified by the California Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) that the issue affecting all incoming 911 calls in San Luis Obispo County has now been fixed. All 911 service is back to normal and functioning.

On 8-25-2025, the Sheriff's Office had been alerted that the state's 911 system was having issues. 911 calls were being delivered correctly to dispatch, however the phone number and location of the caller were not being generated automatically. That meant dispatchers did not have access to a call back number or the location of the caller and were unable to send help to where it was needed.

That resulted in 911 callers needing to tell dispatchers their location and their phone number during their emergency phone call.

If anyone in the county continues to experience issues with the 911 system, they are advised to call the Sheriff’s Office directly at our non-emergency dispatch line: (805) 781-4550, option 3.
