Officer Involved Shooting

Contact: Tony CipollaPhone: (805) 781-4547Date and time of incident: 9-24-20, Approximately 10:20 AMPlace of Occurrence: Theatre Drive and Templeton Cemetery Road, TempletonVictim Information: Sheriff's Deputy Suspect Information: Adult MaleOn 9-24-20, Sheriff's Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a wanted felon in the 3400 block of Theatre Drive in Templeton. Upon pulling over, the suspect fled from his vehicle on foot and the Deputy gave chase and was joined by a second Deputy in the search. The suspect ran through the vineyards to the cemetery, hid and then ambushed the Deputies. The suspect then fired multiple rounds from a handgun at the Deputy, striking him in the leg. The Deputies returned fire.
The suspect continued to flee and attempted to return to his vehicle through the vineyard. Additional Deputies arrived on scene and intercepted the suspect as he tried to regain access to his vehicle. He was still armed with a handgun at which point a second officer involved shooting took place on Theatre Drive. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. No additional suspects are outstanding.
The Deputy who was shot was airlifted by CHP to a local hospital for medical attention. The Deputy is in stable condition.
The Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit is conducting a thorough investigation of the incident with assistance from the California Highway Patrol's Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team.
The suspect is a convicted felon with an outstanding felony warrant. He has an extensive history of multiple weapon charges and is a member of a white supremacist gang. The Sheriff's Gang Task Force was conducting a criminal investigation on him prior to the shooting. The identification of the suspect is pending notification of next of kin.
