Crime Prevention and Public Information Unit

The Crime Prevention Unit supports the Sheriff’s Office mission to increase public safety through education and community engagement. Programs include Neighborhood Watch, the Sheriff’s Citizen Academy, and the Sheriff’s Auxiliary Volunteer Patrol program. The Crime Prevention and Public Information Units manage the department’s social media platforms. The mission of the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office Social Media Team is to share accurate and relevant information, positively promote the Sheriff’s Office and public safety, and to create opportunities for community engagement.

The mission of the Public Information Officer (PIO) is to inform the community about the Sheriff’s Office. Quite simply, the PIO explains what we do as an agency and why we do it. The PIO serves as the primary contact for local, state, national, and international media for any news items that directly relate to the Sheriff’s Office.
