Witnesses at the scene reported that a 20-year-old male had been swimming with friends when he appeared to be in distress and went underwater. A nearby boat was flagged down, and the occupants were able to locate the swimmer and pull him from the water.
CPR was immediately initiated at the scene. The victim was transported to Arroyo Grande Community Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The victim has been identified as Nathan Martinez, 20, of Santa Maria.
Next of kin have been notified.
The Sheriff's Office extends its sincere condolences to Mr. Martinez's family and loved ones during this difficult time.
