Social Media Use & Comment Policy

 

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office uses external social media websites as a public service. The Sheriff’s Office disclaims liability for ads, videos, promoted content or comments accessible from any external web page, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, and YouTube.

The responsibility of external content or comments rests with the organizations or individuals providing them. Any inclusion of external content or comments on external social media websites does not imply endorsement by the Sheriff’s Office.

Commenting Notice:

We encourage your comments, concerns, and questions regarding any of the topics on this Sheriff’s Office social media pages, but will remove the following types of posts:

  1. Off-topic comments;
  2. Profane language or content;
  3. Content that promotes, fosters or perpetuates discrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, age, religion, gender, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, national origin, physical or mental disability or sexual orientation;
  4. Libelous or defamatory comments;
  5. Comments infringing on copyrighted or trademarked material;
  6. Solicitations of commerce;
  7. Conduct or encouragement of illegal activity;
  8. Comments containing specific or imminent threats;
  9. Information that may tend to compromise the safety or security of the public or public systems.
  10. The Sheriff’s Office reserves the right to delete comments that provide links to social media pages or websites displaying offensive content not endorsed by the Sheriff’s Office. Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office reserves the right to delete comments that do not support the objective of providing accurate, relevant, and timely information to the public.

The public comments expressed on social media do not reflect the opinions or position of the Sheriff’s Office, its officers, or its employees. If you have any questions or would like to report a comment in violation, please contact us directly.
