When Deputies arrived, they located a female victim inside the residence who had been shot multiple times. Deputies and medical personnel immediately began lifesaving measures, but the victim did not survive.
Detectives responded to the scene and began an immediate investigation. The suspect, identified as 66-year-old Jose Sevilla Ruiz of San Miguel, had fled the location before Deputies arrived. Ruiz was believed to be driving a gold Ford F-150 pickup truck.
Detectives began following up on leads, interviewing witnesses, and working to locate Ruiz. Based on the investigation, Detectives learned the shooting occurred following a domestic disturbance and verbal argument between Ruiz and the victim. Investigators also received information indicating Ruiz was traveling eastbound out of San Luis Obispo County.
On 9-29-2026, at approximately 8:45 AM, Ruiz was located and taken into custody without incident in Wasco, California, by members of the Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Unit (SOU), with assistance from the Wasco Police Department and California Highway Patrol.
Investigators believe this was an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the general public. No additional suspects are outstanding.
The Sheriff’s Office did not issue an initial public statement while investigators and law enforcement personnel were actively working to locate the outstanding murder suspect. Releasing information prematurely could have compromised investigative strategies, alerted the suspect to law enforcement efforts, or otherwise interfered with the safe and successful apprehension of the suspect.
