911 System Issues

Contact: Tony CipollaPhone: (805) 781-4547Date and time of incident: 8-25-2025Place of Occurrence: San Luis Obispo CountyVictim Information: N/ASuspect Information: N/AThe Sheriff's Office has just been notified of an issue affecting all incoming 911 calls in San Luis Obispo County. The state 911 system is reporting a problem with its network.

911 calls are being delivered correctly to dispatch, however the phone number and location of the caller are not being generated automatically. This means dispatchers do not have access to a call back number or the location of the caller and are unable to send help to where it's needed.

Until this issue is fixed, 911 callers need to tell dispatchers their location and their phone number during their phone call.

This issue is affecting 911 calls in the entire central region of California which includes among others, Kern County and Fresno County.

At this time, there is not an estimated time for when the repairs will be completed.

If anyone in the county continues to experience issues reaching 911, they are advised to call the Sheriff’s Office directly at our non-emergency dispatch line: (805) 781-4550, option 3.

As soon as the Sheriff's Office is notified that the system is fixed and operating normally, we will notify the public immediately.
